Talking Creators
The Case for Universal Income for Creators
With the creator economy's rapid maturation, we're starting to see more and more how the creator economy resembles our current economy.
The top 1% of creators earn a majority of the revenue while small-midsize creators struggle to remain and sometimes become phased out.
To combat this, Li Jin makes the argument that Universal Basic Income for Creators may be the solution to the long-term growth of the creator economy and the birth of new creators.
Welcome to the YOLO Economy
The pandemic accelerated the creator economy. It comes from a combination of COVID throwing a wrench in what we call normal and getting constant reminders of our mortality.
The end result? The rise of the YOLO Economy. Whether it's liquidating your 401(k) early for a $GME play or leaving a cushy high-paying job to focus on your passion. The YOLO Economy gave birth to those privileged enough to make bold bets with little risk.
Writer Collectives Are PIcking Up Steam

Soloish in the form of writer collectives, where writers partner up with one another to share resources such as increased distribution, revenue, and feedback.

Talking Social & Platforms
Facebook wants to help creators and everyone's worried
After constant attacks from the media and the company's own negligence, it's unfortunate that most people (including myself) are skeptical of Facebook's motives when it comes to wanting to help creators.
Similar to other platforms, helping creators is mostly a PR play to attract and retain top talent.
It's understood that the platforms that prioritize creators will win. Facebook looks to be the platform as they continue to release a suite of new products and features dedicated to creators.
It's Time to Unbundle Instagram
I promise today's send isn't an attack on Facebook/Instagram.
As Instagram and Facebook matured, they lost sight of what makes a social platform great. In Holyn's essay, she highlights the emerging players that are successfully unbundling Instagram.

In-house (original essays, thoughts and content)
The rate at which the creator economy is growing is nothing short of crazy. There are now more companies and creators than ever looking to get a piece of the pie. The winners will be those that build solutions specific to each stage of a creators lifecycle.
