YouTuber Auctions His Royalties

Royalty Exchange, a platform for creators to auction their royalties, is the latest to tap into the YouTube market. CJ So Cool, a YouTuber with 8.7M subscribers is auctioning 35% of his royalties in return for $850,000. How many YouTubers follow the same path is up in the air; however, it could be a way for creators to capitalize on opportunities to quickly grow their channel.

Poparazzi On Track For $100M Valuation

Out of nowhere, Poparazzi managed to reach number 1 on the app store and a $100M valuation. All in one week (that's too many 1's). Poparazzi looks to be the opposite of its main competitor Instagram by only allowing users to post pictures of their friends.

Walmart Partners With Celebrity Influencers For Private Label Deals

In its effort to fend off competitors, Walmart is partnering with celebrities to launch private-label deals. Similar to how creator economy startups leverage the distribution of the creators they partner with, Walmart is looking to tap into the millions of fans their celebrity partners command.

Google Is Testing A New Digital Merchandise Platform

Google's R&D unit, Area 120, is working on a new platform called Qaya, to help YouTubers monetize. Through Qaya, creators will be able to offer digital products in various price ranges with stand-alone product pages. In short, it sounds like Gumroad layered on top of YouTube. Right now the platform is being tested with musician Renae, Chef T from Simpleeats.com, NYC vlogger Alexis Barber and aerialist Aaron Koz.
