Dixie D'Amelio launches text community

Communities are the life and blood of creators. Even if a creator doesn't have a million fans, a loyal and engaged community can be all they need to grow and make a living. Dixie D'Amelio doesn't fall into the small creator category but she does understand the power of community with the announcement of her new text message community.

Talking Social & Platforms

OnlyFans Bans Sexually Explicit Videos

In a turn of events that no one saw coming, OnlyFans announced they're changing their policy with sexually explicit content, aka porn. A move that other memberships platforms like Patreon and payment process enforce as well.

OnlyFans creators can still share posts that contain nudity, but sexually explicit content with themselves or other people violate the new OF policy. Prior to the announcement of the change, it was revealed that OF sought to raise money but was having trouble with investors despite their $12.5B GMV. Combine that with pressure from their banking partners, and we're able to see there was no choice but to change their policy. So, what does this mean? It means OF's future is uncertain.

Editors note: The pressure from banks and investors that led to OF changing their business model strengthens the argument for decentralization. It's tough not to side with that argument when a marginalized group of creators have the risk of their livelihood being ruined.

Apple fumbles podcast subscriptions

Apple's rollout of subscriptions for podcast creators has been nothing short of bumpy. After being announced in April, then delayed for a few months, podcasters are voicing their frustrations with the ongoing problems they face. Issues range from members-only episodes taking hours to upload to problems with the subscribers only RSS feed, and more.
